Welcome to The Bell—the flaming hot hotel

Late last year, the zakHill team gave their predictions for marketing trends in 2019. One that we all agreed upon is the continued emphasis of brands finding unusual and unique brand extensions. Think KFC candles and Arby’s Subscription Box. One of our pop-culture obsessed employees who definitely “lives mas” got a coveted spot at the hottest (literally and figuratively) experiential brand extension in town.  Here’s his first person account.

“Welcome to The Bell” are the words that our lucky employee, Scott Corle (@westcoastgeek), heard as he and his wife checked into the exclusive Taco Bell Hotel & Resort.  This pop-up hotel opened for only 4 days this month in the Palm Springs area.  The hotel was the stuff of Taco Bell fans’ dreams.  Scott is a true fan—not only is he a connoisseur of all things “au currant” but he and his now wife won second place in the Taco Bell wedding contest.

Upon check-in, they were greeted by an uber-friendly staff member who welcomed them with a Bell goodie bag and custom Baja Blast beverage. This truly set the tone of one epic stay.  Their room featured a total Taco Bell transformation—not a detail was missed.  We’re talking signature branding on everything from bath robes to bedding, from towels to toiletries—even the wall paper was TB themed!

Limited to a one-night stay, the day was packed with Taco Bell themed fun.  Scott and his wife Brie hung poolside enjoying free food every hour, themed drinks and a game of TACOS (aka Bingo).   That segued into a showing of Demolition Man (which features a scene from 2032 showing Taco Bell as the sole survivor of the franchise wars) and all the nachos you could handle.  As the night winded down, they basked in how lucky they were to score a room, as it had reportedly sold out in under 2 minutes.
