As any man, caveman, or orangutan with a cellular device could tell you, spam calls and emails are a nuisance as old as the web itself. They’re irritating, easy to poke holes in, and even occasionally good for a laugh. However, with the emergence of AI in every industry, spam has gotten smarter. It knows our names, basic information, and how to come off as personable and warm. Long story short, it’s the worst!
Our team members have experienced a flood of these AI-boosted spam emails and calls this week, and they are getting eerily convincing. In fact, one email sent to our team masqueraded so convincingly as one our presidents — a message requesting we purchase hundreds of dollars in gift cards — that we almost fell for it! If it wasn’t for a last-minute check-in, AI spam could have won the day.
